In 2023 alone, there was a reported 1,000% increase in minors being threatened for explicit images. 

The podcast also touches on corporate extortion, in which executives demand bribes for contracts, and police extortion, in which officers exploit their authority for personal gain. Each of these examples underscores how extortion operates through the lens of power dynamics, often leaving the vulnerable at greater risk.

In the United States, extortion is treated as a serious felony, carrying penalties ranging from significant prison time to hefty fines. Connie explains that legal definitions of extortion involve threats of harm, financial coercion, and abuse of public office. The justice system aims to address these crimes, but the podcast emphasizes that true justice must also consider the spiritual implications of extortion.
